From stage to small screen to video games to the big screen, Lester "Rasta" Speight is proving that size does matter in Hollywood. The 6’ 6” actor, weighing in at 305 lbs, is not the Hollywood norm for casting. Still, this big man is in demand. Lester Speight recently wrapped work on “Who’s Your Caddy,” starring Big Boi of OutKast. At the same time, he is in production on the drama/comedy “Finding Amanda,” starring Matthew Broderick. In 2006, he appeared at the electronic entertainment-based E3 conference to represent the Xbox 360 game “Gear of War,” in which Speight portrays the voice of Gus. Lester Speight was in the season premiere of the highly rated Fox TV series, “Prison Break” in January, 2007. For the past two years, Speight has become a household favorite for his recurring comedic role as Calvin Scott Vanessa’s father on the ABC series “My Wife and Kids,” starring Damon Wayans. The show is currently in syndication. He is also shooting a comedy pilot, “Bamn Squad,” in which he stars with Lou Gossett, Jr. Lester Speight made his film debut in “Meteor Man,” directed by Robert Townsend, followed by small roles in “The Replacements” and “Hollow Man,” starring Kevin Bacon. But it was on the set of “Any Given Sunday” with director Oliver Stone where Speight got his break. An extra on the set, Speight was asked by the director to improvise a scene with legendary Oscar®-winner Al Pacino. His film credits include “Vegas Baby,” with Donald Faison and Kal Penn, “Unemployment,” in which he starred, “Cradle to the Grave,” with Jet Li and DMX; “Malibu’s Most Wanted,” with Jamie Kennedy and “13 Moons” with Steve Buscemi, in which he was tested for the role of a gangster, but later matriculated to the featured role of the anesthesiologist. On the small screen, his television credits include, “Cuts,” “Malcolm in the Middle,” “NYPD Blue,” “Homicide: Life on The Streets,” “One on One,” “Walker, Texas Ranger,” “Three Sisters,” “CBS Super Bowl Count Down 06” and HBO’s “Arliss,” as well as recurring roles on the CBS hit daytime drama “The Young and the Restless,” the WB’s “The Jamie Kennedy Experiment” and “The Jamie Foxx Show,” with Academy Award® winner Jamie Foxx. Lester Speight is still best known from the series of hugely popular Reebok commercials, featuring his alter ego “Terry Tate, the Office Linebacker,” that aired during Super Bowl 2003. These commercials resulted from a short film he did as the Terry Tate character in 2000, which was then picked up by Reebok. Since then, the character of Terry Tate has appeared on ESPN, CNN, NBC’s “The Today Show,” ABC’s “Regis & Kelly,” CBS’ “The Morning Show,” “Fox & Friends,” regulating office procedures in his inimitable athletic fashion. These commercials went on to win a Golden Lion at the Cannes Film Festival and were recognized by the Association of Independent Commercial Producers. A record-breaking athlete throughout his school years, Speight pursued a professional football career after graduating from college. He tried out for the Philadelphia Eagles, the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys before finally signing with the New York Giants during the strike season. After scouts saw his astounding 40-yard dash at 4:23, he was wooed by the Baltimore Stars and played a season with them in the now-defunct United States Football League (USFL). He followed football with a stint in professional wrestling as “Rasta, the Voodoo Man,” competing in America, Australia, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean, before deciding to concentrate on his other passion – acting. Lester Speight is continuing to hone his comedic chops by performing stand-up in comedy clubs throughout Los Angeles. His comic idols include Jim Carrey, Robin Williams, Chris Rock, the late Robin Harris, Eddie Murphy, the late Chris Farley, Dana Carvey and Keenan and Damon Wayans.
