Brief History of Raindance
Published in : 2007-09-21 in the category: Festivals and Prizes

Raindance exists to discover, foster and champion new talent and audiences.

Since 1992 Raindance has ignited and overseen major shifts in the world of British independent film.

Our combination of innovative film training, a major film festival and the prestigious British Independent Film Awards means that Raindance plays a vital role in all aspects of independent filmmaking in the UK.

Now in its fifteenth year, Raindance has grown into the largest independent film festival in the UK, showcasing features and shorts by filmmakers from around the world to an audience of film fans, journalists, acquisition executives, actors, producers and directors. Public screenings, seminars, workshops, and parties give everyone the chance to share our passion for independent cinema.

The festival champions independent filmmaking in the UK and specialises in first-time directors. We are committed to promoting this exceptional work to a wider audience.

Raindance has hosted the UK/London premieres of Pulp Fiction, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, The Blair Witch Project, Memento, Old Boy, and Ghost World. Current patrons of Raindance include Ewan McGregor, Vanessa Redgrave, Mike Figgis, Terry Gilliam, Marky Ramone, and Ken Loach.
