To celebrate both its 110th anniversary and its first appearance in an FA Cup Final since the Second World War, Portsmouth Football Club is to undertake a series of events, including a stunning fly-past, on Tuesday 6 May.A helicopter, trailing a 56m x 40m (184 feet x 131 feet) Portsmouth shirt courtesy of the club's sponsor OKI Printing Solutions, will take off from Goodwood Racecourse and fly over the city, passing by some of its most iconic landmarks including Spinnaker Tower, the Historic Dockyard, Port Solent and the club's Fratton Park Stadium. Later in the day, the shirt will be laid out on the deck of HMS Ark Royal when the club's players pay a visit. The squad, including England internationals David James, Sol Campbell and Jermain Defoe, together with manager Harry Redknapp will visit the Royal Navy's Fleet Flagship in Portsmouth's Naval Dockyard to recognise the strong links between the Royal Navy and Portsmouth's community and key institutions, including the football club as well Portsmouth's links with the Japanese naval port of Maizuru, with which the city has a 'sister' relationship. This is especially relevant as Japan is the home of OKI Printing Solutions' parent company, OKI Electric. (Separate Ark Royal visit press release available.) At the same time as the shirt is being flown over the city, local schools will be sent a replica of the shirt (produced and printed by the club's Pompey Study Centre) for them to sign. By signing the replica shirt the pupils will also be signing up to the club's newly launched Respect Pompey initiative which, in conjunction with the local authority and OKI Printing Solutions, promotes positive behaviour in health, education, personal well-being, citizenship, relationships and environment. The shirt will make a second appearance on the day before the FA Cup Final (Friday 16 May) in the City's Guildhall Square, when anyone who wishes to can come down, sign the shirt and in doing so, sign up to the Respect Pompey Charter. 6-May / 8:00 / OKI/PFC/media briefing / Fratton Park, Victory Lounge - 9:15 / Shirt helicopter leaves / Goodwood - 9:25 / Camera helicopter leaves /Fratton Park car park - 9:30 / Helicopters meet / Above Eastern Road 09:30 - 10:30 / Filming of shirt at key landmarks / Spinnaker tower if required - 10:30 / Camera helicopter lands /Fratton Park car park - 10:45 / Images/footage available for distribution / Fratton Park car park - 13:00 / Shirt arrives and laid out on the deck of HMS ARK ROYAL - 14:30 / PFC players arrive and photo session takes place
